On the fifth album from Elton John, Honky Château (1972), we find a true gem. The song is called Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters and is the second to last track on the album. The song's lyric centers around good and bad things about New York City and is considered as one of Elton John and Bernie Taupin's best work.

The song has had a its fair share in setlists in different decades and Elton John has stated on several occasions that it is one of his favorite songs. The song was also featured in The Concert For New York City following the 9/11 attacks.
