Dr. Sarah Cates is a board-certified ER physician and also holds a Ph.D. in International Health Education and Promotion. She has served in medical missions and international disaster response globally. She served as a Clinical Coordinator of Ebola Response in Eastern DR Congo in 2018-2019. and Lassa Fever outbreak in Togo in 2016 - 2017. Dr. Cates has joined Christian Health Service Corps after serving her last few years based in Togo. Her role is to support CHSC field staff and partner hospitals to implement healthcare quality improvement, and disaster preparedness initiatives. We are calling this new program Iron to Silver, recognizing that attaining a gold standard in resource-poor hospitals may not be possible. However, consciously striving for higher standards of care is possible and can save the lives of many children born in poor communities.
