uilding a House Start to Finish Episode Four starts out with a checklist of items we need to complete before we can pour the basement and garage floors (concrete floors) for our Michigan Mountain Home. Building a house in the woods brings on a few challenges that we have to navigate. First on our checklist is putting up a silt fence around the wetlands on our property. It prevents sediment from the house build going into that area. Second on our list is backfilling the property. First we have to brace the walls before backfilling dirt around the house. Next up on our list, we need lay a gravel driveway so trucks and vehicles can pull up to our house. Number four on our list is getting the electric meter in so that our energy company can hook up electric and gas to the house. Number five on our list is measuring for the steel beams. Steel beams are laid across the house under the main floor. They provide structural support and serve as the backbone of the house. Next up is underground plumbing so that the water will flow away from the house. Number 7 on our list is the garage footings. Lastly, we need a gravel subbase laid before the basement and garage floors can be poured. This helps with drainage and potential cracking. And finally it's time to pour the basement and garage floors. Overall, this is a simple home design but there are plenty of items to check off our list!
