Yes, it's a real fur coat from Jacques Saint Laurent dating back to around 1980. It is what's known as a "faux" fur coat which means artificial but still not a cheap coat at all. The same company makes real animal fur coats as well and it's a known name in the industry. The faux fur was worth the risk valued at hundreds vs the animal fur worth thousands just to prove this theory. "Do you really have to take your fur coat to the cleaners?" The answer is no. Of course you should probably wash it on the delicate cycle, but I would hope that watching it violently thrashing around in the heavy duty cycle and receiving no damage would boost your confidence that it's ok. But don't quote me! I only know that it worked for me! The most important thing to worry about is the dryer. Dry with very low heat, or no heat, or no dryer! Hang it out on the clothes line, and keep an eye on it so that your neighbors don't run off with it.
Would I try this with a real animal, like a mink coat? Well, only if I got it for free. :)
