SHORES OF PANGEA is a studio/recording project brought into existence in 2013 to explore the different traditions of European folk music, their musical legacies, and especially motifs of psychological darkness and melancholy found amidst this genre that is often times perceived as merry, placid and inoffensive.
Hidden among the innumerable maypole-dance tunes and tavern-drinking songs of the past, we encounter musical testimonies of real existential terror and of the black, bottomless pit that can be the human condition.
SHORES OF PANGEA is: Marian K. (vocals, mandolin, banjo, cello, guitars, tagelharpa/jouhikko, didgeridoo, flutes, frame drum, percussion, sound design, recording, video editing) and Sophie S. (fiddle, hurdy-gurdy, bodhrán, bouzouki, sitar, keyboards, acoustic bass, percussion, sound design).
Our music is halfway based in historical traditions and halfway free experimentation. Although we have been home-recording for several years, we never found the time to publish our music online. This will change as of now.
