If you are going to interrupt someone, do it with this phrase:
"Let me see if I understand you."
Then paraphrase before redirecting with a question.

If you’re interrupting them to insert your opinion or thought, that’s headed the wrong direction. But if you interrupt them to learn more about them, it’ll be easier to receive. Then, once they feel understood, they will be more likely to listen to your thoughts.
