Prior to its donation to Yosemite National Park in 2016, Ackerson was privately owned for more than 100 years and suffered impacts from road building, logging, ranching, etc. Restoring more than a century of manipulation is not a small feat, but the project team and partners are fully determined to successfully restore Ackerson Meadow’s robust hydrology and functioning expansive wetlands.

Projects such as Ackerson Restoration are incredibly important for the benefit of threatened and endangered wildlife species, overall ecosystem diversity, water storage, and climate resiliency. This project raises the bar for what is possible through collaborative restoration across the region.

Project Partners still include Yosemite National Park, Calaveras Healthy Impact Product Solutions (CHIPS), The Institute for Bird Populations, Stanislaus National Forest, Swiftwater Designs, and Washington State University.
