In this video I show you how we cut and fit a new hatch/opening for us to access the loft. This is only a temporary solution to solve how we get into the loft, but was very necessary for 2 reasons - 1, the old loft hatch was covered by a steel beam. 2, we needed a bigger opening that the original hatch, so that we could take larger objects up into the loft.

The other reason we needed a hatch, is because we aren't breaking through and installing a staircase yet - this is because it was going to cost more money than I had available, if I was going to pay the builder to do it, and also, we don't actually need the loft space just yet. That being said, we do want and need to access the space, and once the scaffolding gets taken down, the only way we can do that if via a new hatch.

This is a very dusty and dirty job, and it was only a small hole - so prepare in advance, and put down dust-sheets, and close your doors so that the travel of dust is minimal.

We also cut the new hatch in the location where the stairs are going to be, so that we don't need to cover up that space, and cut more ceiling out elsewhere.
