What birds eat in snowfall? How do birds survive in the winter? How do birds stay warm in the winter? Well, one of the answers is - birds fly to the bird feeders in a backyard. Really, the winter season is challenging for the birds. Therfore winter birds love our backyard - we provide a lot of food for wild birds, it helps birds to survive in the winter. Many species of birds don't migrate. These are dark-eyed junco, starling, black-capped chicadee, northern cardinal, house sparrow, finches, downy woodpeckers, red-bellied woodpecker, ladded-backed woodpecker, hairy woodpecker and some other bird species. And there are birds that sometimes migrate, and sometimes they can stay for the winter. This is, for example, the northern flicker. Flickers often fly to our backyard during a cold weather and flutter from feeder to feeder. Flickers usually sit on the feeder for a long time. The red-bellied woodpecker and ladded-bellied woodpecker usually try to take food and fly with it to an oak tree to feast on it or hide it in a secluded place. The northern cardinal surprised us with his singing at the end of November. Black-capped chicadee and sparrows also chirp loudly even in bad weather.
