How to understand paint tubes & labels (quick guide)

The paint tube has all the information we need about the color and the quality of the paint.

Labels can tell us about the color, pigments, opacity, lightfastness, and safety of the color.

Color paint indexes:
- PW - White Pigments, most popular are PW6 - Titanium White and PW4 - Zinc White
- PY - Yellow Pigments, most commonly used in paint: PY3 (Hansa Yellow), PY 35 (Cadmium Yellow, PY 37 (Cad Yellow Deep), PY 175 (Benzimidazolone Yellow), PY 150 (Nickel Azo Yellow).
- PO - Orange Pigments, for ex., PO 20 (Cadmium Orange)
- PR - Red Pigments, for ex., PR 5/9/121/170 (Naphthol Red pigments), PR 83 (A Crimson), PR 106 (Vermilion), PR 108 (Cadmiu Red), PR 122 /202 (Quinacridone Magenta), PR 188 (Scarlet), etc.
- PV - Violet Pigments, for ex., PV14 Cobalt Violet, PV 16 Manganese Violet, PV 23 Dioxazine Violet
- PB - Blue Pigments, some have green and red shades for ex., PB 15:1 – Phthalocyanine blue RED and PB 15:3 is GREEN shade. PB 28 is Cobalt Blue, PB 29 is Ultramarine Blue, etc.
- PG - Green Pigments, one of the most popular ones is PG 7 - Phthalo green. PG 18 is Viridian.
- PBr - Brown Pigments
- PBk - Black Pigments, PBk 7 is Carbon Black - one of the most used. PBk 11 is Mars Black.
