I created this electric hacksaw to do the metal cutting for me. it has a 18v DC motor all though you can use a 12v windshield wiper motor instead. it also has a variable speed controller. the slider mechanism is a drawer slider.the threeded rod is to help control the dissent. it needs wiehgt at the end of arm. that will help it to cut more smoothly.
