Walking the streets of Downtown Playa Del Carmen Centro, I came across Rodrigo. He was sitting on the street, waiting for a customer to shine shoes. I decided I would be his shoe shine customer.
Rodrigo, 53 years old, is from Veracruz. He used to work security, but is now a shoe shiner. He said he has been working shoe shine for 6 months to 1 year.
In this video, I wore some socks that I bought in the Tepito area of Mexico City. These 50 Cent socks were part of a packet of socks that were hip hop themed. The pack also included Ice Cube and Eminem as well. I love it. Tepito is a famous area for shopping. Here you can buy everything. I mean everything. Tepito runs by its own rules. Do not go there at night -- always stay cool.
At the end of the video I ate a Mexican street food snack called hojaldra, which is a bakery item. This one cost 25 Pesos and was made with ham and cheese inside. it was delicious.
I hope you enjoy this Mexican shoe shine video as much as I enjoyed making it.
Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
Cost for shoe shine: 40 Mexican Pesos ($2 USD)
