A piano piece from Twilight Princess, that plays when Link carries the wounded Midna to see Princess Zelda.

Field notes! The entire melody is just the Hyrule Field theme with Midna's theme interjected, all reharmonized. I have two theories about why this is: the first is that it's a functional arrangement of the overworld theme, as you carry Midna onto Hyrule Field. The second is more abstract, but it has to do with how the motifs interact. The Hyrule Field theme dominates throughout the song, and Midna's theme calls meekly in between phrases. Whether it's intentional or not, it's a beautiful reflection of the events of that moment, where Midna is dying in the world of Hyrule.

FAQ (1/5/14): I've been getting a lot of repeat questions about this video, so please check here first before you post a comment.

Q: Where can I find the sheet music?
A: Sheet music here - http://bit.ly/p7LHDO

Q: Where can I download the MP3?
A: MP3 here - http://bit.ly/qAxpVI

Q: How difficult is this piece?
A: I'd say it's intermediate level, but it should be no problem if you have some experience. It took me 2 days total to make the sheet music, memorize it, and perform it.

Q: I'm having trouble with the left hand. Any suggestions?
A: The left hand to this song is a bit awkward, so I suggest you keep practicing it for awhile until the pattern feels comfortable in your hand. The fingering I use is 5-4-3-2-1-2.

Q: Isn't this song called "Midna's Lament"?
A: Officially, yes! At the time, I'd heard both "Lament" and "Desperate Hour" (the title used in Smash Bros. Brawl before the Twilight Princess OST was released.) I picked the latter for a number of reasons, one of them being that many traditional laments in music have a chromatically descending bassline, which this song doesn't. I didn't know which one was official and made a decision, that's all. Sorry if my choice has offended anyone!
