The writer and director behind Bergman Island, Eden and her new film, One Fine Morning, talks about her career at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival, presented in partnership with American Express (5-16 October).

A former critic and actor, Mia Hansen-Løve’s career as a writer and director began with the 2004 shorts Après mûre réflexion and Un pur esprit, followed by her feature debut All Is Forgiven in 2007.

Her sophomore feature Father of My Children (2009), which received the Special Jury Prize of Un Certain Regard section of the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, established her as one of the most exciting voices in French cinema.

Intimate, luminous and quietly powerful, her films blend sophisticated writing with lean mise-en-scene. Her other films, Goodbye First Love (2011), Eden (2014), Berlinale Best Director winner Things to Come (2016) and Bergman Island (2021) have only cemented her reputation as a world-class filmmaker.
