The Fergana Valley is an area of Central Asia that has been ripe with conflict for years. Today, however, it is far more peaceful. Within the Fergana Valley exists a city that is also called Fergana. This city is very reminiscent of a classic Soviet town. There isn't very much to do here and no sights to see, and if traveling on a tight schedule you can skip it. If, however, you have ample time on your hands, it's worth a visit to try authentic Soviet and Uzbek cuisine, and see decades old Soviet architecture.

Uzbekistan (Oʻzbekiston) is a lovely ex-USSR country located in Central Asia. Its official language is Uzbek (although the majority of the population also speaks Russian).

Neighboring states: in the east - Kyrgyzstan; in the northeast, north and northwest - Kazakhstan; in the southwest and south - Turkmenistan; in the south - Afghanistan; and in the southeast - Tajikistan.

If you search around on google, you can find many good resources like Lonely Planet, Caravanistan, Journal of Nomads, and Atlas Obscura. However, many of them are outdated. For the most up to date Uzbekistan info...
