Karl Edmund Prier, SJ (18 September 1937 – 21 January 2024) was a German Catholic priest from the Order of the Society of Jesus who worked in Indonesia. He studied piano at the age of 9. In 1953, when he was 16 years old and attending the Albertus Magnus Schule Viernheim Gymnasium. Six years later, he studied philosophy in Munich. After graduating in 1962, he taught music at the Stella Matutina College Feldkirch, Austria.
After reading a book chronicling the journey of a missionary in the Eskimo interior, he became a novitiate in the order of the Society of Jesus. He first came to Indonesia in 1964 and founded the Liturgical Music Center in Yogyakarta on 11 July 1971.
On February 11 2018, Prier was stabbed while leading mass at Santa Lidwina Bedog Church, Yogyakarta.
Father Prier died at the age of 86 at Panti Rapih Hospital, Yogyakarta on January 21 2024 and was buried in the cemetery complex for the priests of the Society of Jesus Girisonta (Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery). Here he is playing pieces from various composers on an organ.
