Cheap eBay steel drum VS Professional steel drum

It's amazing how similar these drums sound... Note to self - I must make it more obvious when I'm joking.

Cheap VS expensive steel drum / steel pan comparison - can you hear the difference?

The cheap pan isn't even tuned at concert pitch, and it sounds terrible.

It doesn't ring (chrome helps with that), and there are some notes that are really out of tune, notably the Bb.

It's also made of a very light metal, so it just doesn't have the same body, especially in the low notes. It lacks punch and sounds more whispy
