Dame Joan Sutherland would have turned 85 today.
This performance of "Suor Angelica" was recorded live at the Sydney Opera House in July of 1977 and captures a mature Sutherland in her dramatic and vocal prime. The chest voice is rounded and resonant; the dramatic involvement, one of a heartbroken mother.
A sincerely touching performance by a sincere and wonderful singer.
