The last old bridge on Korinthos-Patra "fell" on Monday night.
For safety reasons, traffic on Korinthos-Patra between the Kiato and Xylokastro I/Cs, was deviated to the Old National Road until Tuesday early morning.
This demolition had one peculiarity: The machines could only work on one side of the bridge, since the west side was next to the new overpass which has already been built. For this reason it took more machinery for the process to be completed rapidly. The operation involved five hydraulic hammers ("claws"), several excavators and dump trucks.
On the occasion of traffic interruption between Kiato and Xylokastro I/Cs , construction sites had planned other tasks that cannot be done when the road is in operation. For example 200m from the Diminio bridge, in the direction towards Athens, special crews were placing a signage bridge (electronic message sign) above the new motorway and there were asphalt works being carried out at the Kiato I/C.
