Back Three formations have had a resurgence in recent seasons, with the likes of Antonio Conte & Thomas Tuchel winning trophies at their respective clubs, with the 3-5-2 used regularly.

The 3-5-2 utilises an extra centre backs, & two wingbacks which often support high the in the attacking phase. The midfield trio cover the central spaces, with both centre forwards high in the attack.

The 4-3-3 is one of the most common formations, with a central midfield trio operating ahead of the four man back line, and underneath a front three.

This video analyses how the 3-5-2 operates when up against a 4-3-3, & some suggested patterns, movements, & rotations in both the attacking and defending phases.
