Claver Irakoze was 11 years old when the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda happened in 1994. He and his family sought refuge in a school in Kabgayi, a city in southern Rwanda, only to find that it was not a safe place, either. Government soldiers and militias started coming and taking people to be killed.
Irakoze speaks about the horror, loss and trauma he experienced through the genocide, and how he found meaning in keeping this memory alive for future generations.
