Galicia is a historical and geographical region in western Ukraine, eastern Poland, and Slovakia. In Ukraine, it is commonly associated with the Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Ternopil regions. In these regions, it's almost impossible to find dying or abandoned villages, and the economic level of settlements here is significantly higher than in other parts of Ukraine. The architecture, language, traditions, and landscapes are somewhat different as well. Why is it that in regions like Chernihiv and Khmelnytskyi, villages are disappearing by the dozens, while in Galicia, they thrive and develop? Is there divine intervention, empires, or nature itself involved in this process? The Hushchy project sought answers to all these questions during a hiking expedition through Galicia. We discovered the cradle of insurgents, a nationalist's house, a house where Roman Shukhevych may have lived, a mare named Raquel and her drunken owner, and graves dug up for gold. Well, let's go! It will be interesting.
