Here at CheapHumidors.com, one of the questions we get asked the most is: Does a glass top or acrylic humidor hold humidity the same as a wood humidor?

When we talk about humidity and the seal of a humidor there are two tests that people most often use. The first is the drop test where you will take your humidor and just drop the lid to see if it has a good seal. The second is using a dollar bill, placing it on the inside of your humidor and seeing if there is any resistance trying to pull it out. Those tests are great but they only test the seal of the lid to the base of the humidor.

When you are talking about a glass top humidor you also have to think about the seal from the glass on the top. So how can you show if a glass top humidor is holding humidity well? So what we decided to do was take a glass top humidor, fill it with smoke and see if any smoke leaked out from the side or the top of the humidor.

As you can see, along the sides where one would normally see if you have a good seal, there is no smoke coming out, which would indicate that this humidor has a good seal. You can see all the smoke inside; this would represent your humidity as you open the lid of a humidor.

This is a traditional glass top humidor you could see along the sides where you would normally look for a humidity loss, has a perfectly good seal. And most importantly for the glass top, on the top you'll see that no humidity, or smoke in this case, is coming out of this humidor. As I open this lid you can see all the purple smoke, or humidity escaping.

So to answer the question does an acrylic or glass top humidor hold humidity as well as a traditional humidor? The answer is yes. If you buy one of our humidors you are going to get a great sealing humidor and it is going to hold humidity just as well as a standard traditional wood top humidor.
