Akari Swing

This song, like many in Disappear Here, had a few overhauls before being officially laid down. I definitely love the imagery in the final version, but there was a bit more simplicity in the scrapped lyrics that I miss. I hope I still have remnants of them around. The title had just about as many overhauls as the lyrics. Beautiful for the simpler version. Satellites was the lazy temporary title for the revised version which led to Akari (Japanese word for "light), the name of a real live satellite that obediently orbits us over head by day.

This song compares the idea of intoxicating infatuation to things like our view from earth and our worship of the stars; light we'll never touch; our envy of things in flight; space travel; succumbing to a gravitational pull and a turbulent atmospheric reentry; and, of course, our obedient orbit around a violent, scorching affair we wouldn't survive without. So the title is more fitting than it seems. Jeremy added the "Swing" later because it reminded him of something I don't recall and he thought it had a nice ring. I concur.

Lyrics:

[This wouldn't be so hard if you weren't so heavenly]
Spoiled rotten fruit like me can't control the spin of the world
It's just a little far for me to follow right now
Don't think you're anything special
You are just a dying star, your light running out
Years before we'll ever know, by then we'll have to let it go
Whoa, all together now, "WHOAH!"
This wouldn't be so hard if we'd known the score.
Come on now, you know you've got to pull yourself together here
'Cause they've been keeping score. The atmosphere could scorch.
You know you can pull through it again.
Honey, they don't teach you this in school
You've got everybody singing your tune
Your bad ideas flock to me like birds to your bees.
This wouldn't be so hard if you weren't so celestial or typical or difficult.
I swear to God! Just pull "Abort"!
The stars, the world will still run their course around you.
The melodies that they play when you are the saddest song
The balcony is singing your swoon, and you hear a voice from above,
"But you always think you are in love."
Your bad ideas flock to me like birds to your bees.
This wouldn't be so hard if you weren't so...
Whoa, all together now, "whoa!"
