Dexterously played death metal from Japan, released in 1996, that is a reasonably succinct yet uncommon combination and summation of much of what the genre offered in the years leading up to the mid '90s. Never letting any single element of their sound become too prominent, Subconscious Terror made death metal that was proggy and technical but also menacing and brutal. An enthusiastic, occasionally hyperactive delivery with a high value of ideas per song nevertheless, through the length of these tracks and their excellent structure, gives each song room enough to breathe and develop its nuances. Easily among the best of the Japanese death metal records, it's a pity that this band didn't release anything else.
