On July 20, 2018, around 3:35 PM, members from the Marin County Sheriff's Office and the San Rafael Fire Department responded to the area of the Echo Trail and Bay View Trail in China Camp State Park. A 46 year old male mountain biker had fallen off the trail and down an approximately fifty foot cliff suffering injuries from the fall.

Due to the location of the fall and the complexity of the rescue, the Sonoma Sheriff helicopter Henry 1 was requested for a long line rescue. Henry 1 responded and configured a rescuer on the bottom of a long line, whom was flown to the injured mountain biker. The mountain biker was then flown to an awaiting San Rafael Fire Department ambulance and transported to a local hospital.

Friends of Henry 1 is a regional asset provided by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office that is pivotal and often used to assist in both Law Enforcement operations and rescues throughout Marin County. The Marin County Sheriff's Office is proud to have such a great working relationship with our partners to the north.
