Most patients with schizophrenia are treated with medications. But one-fifth to one-third of all patients with schizophrenia do not respond adequately to drug treatment. Emotional outbursts of anger and frustration generates anxiety and depression in patients. The subsequent expression of these emotions by the patient triggers the symptoms. Only a small number of patients with schizophrenia receive treatment an d family support. Studies indicate that once the patient receives appropriate treatment and support, the later on chances of relapse of the symptoms are significantly lower than for patients whose families does not seek help.

Psychological therapies can be helpful for many patients.
