September 6—On the final day of the Canopy Piloting National Championships, Advanced class competitor Khoa Nguyen summarized the discipline best: "You just got done with a successful skydive, and now you're going to point the parachute straight at the ground? That's cowboy stuff—it's like finding out who can ride a bull the longest."

It wouldn't be another day of this competition without weather playing a defining part, and canopy pilots alternated between swooping the pond and waiting for a hole in the clouds. Meet Director Melissa Nelson continued to navigate the challenging conditions in order to best give athletes the opportunity to finish rounds in Speed and Distance, and the competition wound down with the Open class able to finish seven out of a possible nine rounds.

The winners will take their places on the podium tonight!
