National Medical Register (NMR): NMC Launches Portal for Unique ID Registration of Doctors in India

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has launched a portal for the registration of all MBBS doctors in India.

All registered doctors will be assigned a unique ID as part of the National Medical Register (NMR).

The NMR is a dynamic database and central repository of all registered medical practitioners (RMPs).

Doctors must register again on the NMR, even if previously registered on the Indian Medical Register (IMR).

Aadhaar ID will be used to verify the authenticity of doctors.

Medical colleges, institutions, and State Medical Councils (SMCs) are linked to the NMR portal.

Public access will be limited to some data, while the Ethics & Medical Registration Board (EMRB), SMCs, NBE, and medical institutions will have full access.

Doctors need Aadhaar IDs, MBBS degree certificates, and their original State Medical Council registration certificates to start the registration process.

The portal allows manual entry of additional qualifications and credentials.

The registration process involves verification by SMCs and medical institutions, followed by NMC approval.

After successful verification, doctors will receive a unique NMR ID.

The portal includes features such as application tracking, adding qualifications, and issuing NMR ID cards and digital certificates.

Currently, only MBBS degree registrations are accepted, with additional qualification updates coming soon.

The NMR aims to provide comprehensive data on the total number of doctors, including those who have left the country or lost their licenses.

The NMR is mandated under Section 31 of the NMC Act, 2019.
