whats this orange submarine thing at the trade center? This is not a public area, it is secured by padlock due to work a hatch is left open. people who travel the 358 highway to Padre Island, who live in Corpus Christi or even who shop at the trade center may not know whats inside. this is a diesel powered life raft for around 12 to judge from the seatbelt config and a few hours of fuel to control your course. while being a little dated this and later versions of this will be mounted to oil platforms, tankers or any larger vessel with hazardous material for a powered escape to be useful. just the sort of ships to dock at Corpus Christi port maybe. every label inside captured here, the engine being worked on probably is totally exposed for the video. there are two escape vehicles in a wide open parking lot, the trade center is only open weekends and this footage is a Wed. there is a front hatch left and right on each pod and 3 of 4 were locked. if you decide to stop all may be locked or the pods may be sold to someone.
this is a post for the thousands of people who visit the National Seashore to drive the 60 miles or so of beach to fish / beach whatever and did not stop at the orange things.
there are families, 24 hours a day that stop for selfies and snapshots of the sandcastle souvenir shop only miles from here but no cars were seen anywhere close to this history. we left it as we found it
