Mother Teresa is one of the most well-known recent saints in the Roman Catholic Church. She is best known for her work with the poor in Calcutta and for founding the Missionaries of Charity. St Teresa of Calcutta became renowned worldwide and even won the Nobel Peace Prize. On May 24, 1937, she took her Final Profession of Vows to a life of poverty, chastity and obedience. As was the custom for Loreto nuns, she took on the title of "Mother" upon making her final vows and thus became known as Mother TeresaMother Teresa founded the Order of the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic congregation of women dedicated to the poor, particularly to those in India, that opened numerous centres serving the blind, the aged, and the disabled.
