Hope this helps with your project. Most drywall is mounted to brick or block with furring strips. If there is no wood between drywall and block/brick then it is probably plaster on block. It helps to drill pilot holes to see what your dealing with. When buying bolts to attached mount to wall always grab a couple options for types of hardware and grab one more than you think you need (nothing more frustrating that screwing up and making ANOTHER trip to the hardware store) Here is a link to all my tv mount videos.
