For quite some years now, it seemed as if the Germans had the compact size executive saloon market wrapped up - with the exception of the Jaguar XE of course. After offering models such as the 156 and the 159 in previous years, Alfa Romeo is back, with the brand new Giulia. Has this pretty face got enough to compete, or is style of substance?
The model tested here is the Speciale model, which is towards of the top of the range and is only available with the 178bhp 2.2 litre diesel. This engine also offers 450Nm of torque, as is mated to an 8-speed automatic with power fed to the rear wheels. Although this may not offer the same amount of power as the 2.9 litre V6, it's no slouch. It will hit 62mph in 7.1 seconds and continue to a top speed of 143mph.
Has the Giulia got what it takes to compete with the Germans though? Check out this video review to find out.
