A CONCERT featuring six North Staffordshire choirs took place on Saturday 12 October 2024 after a summer show had to be cancelled at the last minute.
More than 200 singers took part in the Six Choirs Together in Song at Longton’s Methodist Central Hall on October 12. The event had been due to take place at the same venue in June but renovation work forced the postponement of the event.
The six choirs which took part in the concert were the Alsager Community Choir, the Dougie Mac Choir, Endon Community Choir, Fulford Community Choir, Ovation – the Staffordshire County Council Workplace Choir – and the Stafford Military Wives Choir.
The choirs have never performed together in the same event – until now, when they were led by their musical director Dan Hollinghurst.
Each choir showcased a selection of their own favourite songs, as well as singing together – and there was even a chance for some audience participation too.
Dan says: “Singing is universal, unifying and wonderfully uplifting, particularly when you join together with others – it was magical experience and there was really no feeling quite like it.
“Following the postponement, we were all really eager to bring this concert to life and all six of our choirs were excited to finally be perform together.
“On the night, each individual choir sang their favourite songs, but the highlight for all of us was be when we brought together the powerful, inspirational sound of over 200 voices as one.”
The six choirs are always on the lookout for new members and welcome anyone who loves to sing.
