I found this 15 year old or so topper/camper shell on Marketplace for cheap, so I figured I would drive the 3 hours to go pick it up. 100$ later I had a color matched shell for my GMC. Once I got it home I found out why it was so cheap, leaky side windows, no keys, dirty stains on the inside, as well as some paint scratches and chips. I will worry about the paint later but I couldn’t deal with water intrusion and the lack of being able to lock up my stuff so to the internet I went.
This shell has no model tag and no identifying markings so it made it a bit difficult to figure things out but we got it!
Finding replacement keys was the easiest part as I found a lock number and after a quick google search, new Bauer keys were on their way from Amazon. I also cleaned to dingy white fiberglass on the inside and decided to paint it all when the stains would not come out. The side windows were the most labor intensive, deciding to use a much thicker seal than what was once there proved to be a challenge. With the new seals I don’t think there will be any issues with water leaking ever again! I also replaced the rear door hatch seal with the same D seal I used on the side glass. The cheap Chinese eraser wheel I used actually worked really well and I will be using it on many other projects. all the links for the products I used are lister below, I hope this helps someone else trying to save another old topper like I did.
