The Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University, is one of the earliest Departments in the country to be devoted to the pursuit of cultural studies. Founded in 1995, the department engages with cultural products, practices and forms with a special focus on North-East India. Its curricula focus on interdisciplinary approaches to traditional fields of study where the aim is to explore emergent cultural and cross-cultural phenomena from multiple points of view.
