I thought you might be interested in knowing about a most unique project I’ve been working on here in my stair shop. It’s a 33-ft long black walnut slide built with 438 layers of cross-laminated layers of hardwood and I have been building in my shop in Sierra Vista, AZ for the last 6 months.
I spent 2 years designing it and now 7 months building it. I have about 3 weeks of work to complete the stair and railing before installing it in a round tower room on an 8000 sq ft house in Sacramento, 950 miles away.
Few humans have the budget to match their dreams. It’s amazing to find someone who will pay you to have so much fun! But it’s also been an enormous challenge! Sometimes it just about drove me crazy! I’ve been jarred awake in the middle of the night many times wondering what I got myself into. 😐 But after some sweat and brain wrangling, I get the next step figured it out. 😊
The slide is designed for adults and children. I built a 7-foot long prototype last year and my clients who are grandparents, tested it with their grandchildren and approved it.
