The #WestIndiesFederation was a short-lived political union that existed from 1958 to 1962. It was formed by ten British colonies in the Caribbean: Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and Trinidad and Tobago. The main goal of the federation was to create a single, unified political entity that would represent the Caribbean region in international affairs. The federation was led by a Prime Minister and a Governor-General appointed by the British Crown. The federation was dissolved in 1962 due to internal disagreements and a lack of support from the British government. Despite its short life, the federation had a lasting impact on Caribbean politics and culture and is seen as a precursor to the modern Caribbean Community.
