When it comes to mobility and convenience, a manual welding machine undoubtedly outperforms a classic one. The fewer wires and lighter the device, the better. Moreover, losses will be less on one short cable.
But there are also disadvantages. In a classic apparatus, the distance from the workpiece to the holder is equal to the length of the electrode - 350 mm.
