About this video: Shaders is one of the most popular Minecraft mods out there, and this video is a complete guide on how to download and install Minecraft Shaders for 1.21. Our goal is that no matter what, you will be able to use shaders in Minecraft 1.21 and take your graphics experience to a completely new level.

First things first, we will need to download the Shaders mod for Minecraft 1.21. We are specifically going to be using the Iris Shaders mod for Minecraft 1.21. Iris shaders is an alternative shaders mod to Optifine 1.21. This is great if Optifine hasn’t updated to Minecraft 1.21 or if you are looking to use Fabric mods or get an overall better experience, which Iris Shaders can provide over Optifine.

In order to download Iris, click the “Download Iris” link in the description above. This will take you to our in-depth text guide on getting shaders without Optifine 1.21 using Iris. On this page, click the “Download Iris” button. This will take you to the official Iris Shaders download page. There, you will see a “Download Universal Jar” button. Click that to download the Iris Installer.

Next, open up the Iris Shaders Installer using Java. Specifically, you will need to use Java 21 as this is now required for shaders in Minecraft 1.21.

In the Iris Shaders installer, select the 1.21 version and click the “Install” button. The Minecraft 1.21 shaders mod will then install on your PC!

Now, we need to download shader packs. Shader packs are what allow you to actually get shaders in Minecraft, and every shader pack is different with its own unique style. There is a link in the description above to our list of the best shader packs. Once you find a shader pack you want, you can download it. Most shader packs are downloaded from CurseForge or Modrinth. Just make sure that the shader pack you download is for the Minecraft 1.21 version.

With your shader pack downloaded, open up the Minecraft Launcher and play Minecraft using your Iris + Sodium 1.21 installation. Sodium is a Minecraft performance mod that is packaged with Iris shaders.

From there, with Minecraft 1.21 opened with the shaders mod, click on “Options”, “Video Settings” and “Shader Packs” at the top. This is your shaders menu where you will be able to manage all of your shaders in Minecraft 1.21. As far as how to install Minecraft shaders in 1.21 on PC, just drag-and-drop the shader packs you downloaded into this shader menu. When you do, the shader packs will appear in the menu.

You can now select a shader pack and and click “Apply” to activate it. There is also a “Shader Pack Settings” button at the bottom center of the shader menu. This is where you can change and customize different settings with a shader pack. Every Minecraft 1.21 shader pack is different and will have different settings.
