Are flying taxis nearly a reality in China? In mid-October, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) gave the world's first type certificate for passenger-carrying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to a U.S.-listed, Guangzhou-based eVTOL company EHang. A Shanghai-based startup TCab Tech just finished its first round of flight tests in October on the prototype of E20, the company's tilt-rotor eVTOL. In the upcoming 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE), a China-developed five-seat "air taxi" will make its world debut. What is eVTOL and how is China pioneering in this industry?
