Some 18 months after the debut of its price-lead Omoda 5 midsize SUV, Chery has lobbed a fully electric version - its first EV offering in Australia - in the form of the Omoda E5.

With its slicker restyling and bespoke electric architecture, the Omoda E5 arrives in two variants: the entry BX at $42,990 and the higher-grade EX $45,990, both before on-roads.

Powered by a single front-mounted electric motor good for 150kW and 340Nm, the Omoda E5 fits a 61.1kWh battery with modest 80kW peak DC charging, if with a maximum range claim of 430 kilometres.
