Luca Marini, the only full-time rider on the grid without a point this season in the 2024 MotoGP, has drawn criticism for his lackluster performance on the RC213V.

Even though the Italian's below-par performances this season have been a far cry from his podium successes from the previous season, they must be understood in the light of the radically different position that he has been engaged to undertake in 2024.

Marini's season has been everything but fantastic, it is true. Marini's average pace this year has been nothing like his 2023 form, with him nearly always the slowest Honda and occasionally finding himself in a duel with riders from rival brands after they've remounted their bikes after crashing.
