On Tuesday 20 August, WHISE launched it's latest resource - Rethinking Mental Health Promotion.

This resource distills months of collaborative work across the region around placing a gender lens over mental health promotion and stems from a request from health planners who wanted more information on how they can involve other business units in a systems approach to mental health promotion.

Mental health promotion often focuses on helping people to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to promote and protect their own mental wellbeing or to support their peers. While this is certainly part of the puzzle, it is difficult for someone to protect their own wellbeing if they feel unsafe or are experiencing any form of discrimination.

What does it mean to re-think mental health promotion? Put simply, within the frame of gender transformative practice, mental health promotion recognises that social determinants, including gender inequities, impact mental wellbeing. When we apply this lens, we work to develop inclusive and supportive environments that recognise and accommodate diverse needs and strengths.

Join us as we celebrate this important work. We will describe the resources in detail, answer questions, and discuss next steps in the implementation plan. These are working documents that we hope to strengthen through collaboration with organisations who have expertise in other important intersections, so this is very much just the beginning and we look forward to continuing this work together.
