In this DIY video I build a coffee table to compliment the sideboard we already have in the space.
To achieve the look of a 1.5” thick table top, but not to have the weight or expense of using all that oak, I instead use laminated boards around the perimeter to give the illusion of heft.
After it’s built, I use a two step finishing process by first staining it with black india ink and then massaging the Rubio white deep into the pores of the oak to showcase and celebrate the beautiful grain of the wood and of course to seal the surface.
