In this episode, Shae and I are in Vietnam, tackling the Hai Van Pass! The Hải Vân Pass is an approximately 21-kilometer-long mountain pass on National Route 1 in Vietnam. It traverses a spur of the larger Annamite Range that juts into the 'East Sea', on the border of Đà Nẵng and Thừa Thiên–Huế Province, near Bạch Mã National Park. The road gained significant popularity when it appeared in the Top Gear Motorbike special. We heard about this while we were still in Laos, and then some friendly people we met in Vietnam shared with us their bike rental that they used while in Hue. The bike rental was very convenient and easy; the person came to our hotel, dropped the scooter off, and then returned the next day to pick it up. The pass takes about 1 hour to travel from top to bottom, or you can drive all the way from Da Nang to Hue. We drove from Hue to the bottom of the pass and then back to our hotel in Hue. It was a super fun day and worth skipping a day at the beach.
