Wind is one of those things that people love to say causes unsettled newborn babies and is often blamed as the cause of poor sleep in newborns.

Some babies are definitely affected more by having a burp stuck in their tummy, while others aren't bothered.

Join Maria, Sleep Coach at The Sleep Store as she demonstrates burping techniques with a newborn baby.

Maria covers the following burping techniques:
1. Over the Shoulder - Pop baby's tummy up on your shoulder with a bit of pressure and rub circles on their back. You can also rub your hand up their back from bottom to top.

2. The Lap Method - Pop baby on your knee with their legs between your legs. Hold them forward and move them around a little bit.

3. The Milkshake Method - Sit baby on your knee and gently turn them in circles from their waist.

4. Into the Air - Lift baby up into the air and give your baby a little wiggle, taking care to support them well.

5. The Old School Method - Try a little bit of pressure on their tummy by leaning their tummy on your leg, whilst their legs are between yours. Rub circles on their back or rub their back from bottom to top.

6. The Bicycle Method - Lie baby down on a firm, flat surface (i.e. the floor or their cot) and move their legs in a bicycle motion. You can also "tuck" the legs up, which helps with gas as well. You can also apply some pressure to their tummy in circles when they are lying down.

Always support your baby's head and neck well when practicing these burping techniques.
