My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Howthwaite Campsite. It's in a stunning location with easy access to Lake Coniston. Coniston village is less than 10 minutes by car or 30 minutes walk from the site. It's run by the National Trust, has basic facilities, with toilets and showers but don't let this put you off it's very well maintained and much quieter than any campsites nearby. You can book in advance via the National Trust Website and you may even take a trailer for your boat if you have one. An excellent place highly recommended by both of us.
