REVIEW of KitchenAid 4.5 Quart Stand Mixer:

From my last review, you know I had an issue with the steel bowl of my KitchenAid Mixer, that’s why I decided to try the model with the glass bowl instead. If you want to see that review, click below. The unit weighs 29 lbs, measures 13 15/16 inches tall, 8 ¾ inches wide and 14 ⅛ inches deep. It’s about 3 lbs heavier than the model with the steel bowl. The bowl is glass and there are markings on the bowl. Included is a 6 wire whip, burnished metal dough hook and flat beater. Everything is hand wash only.


It has 5 rubber feet on the bottom. The head tilts up when you move this lever and locks when you put the head down. The unit is 325 watts, has 10 speeds and a power hub where you can use 12 different KitchenAid attachments like the food grinder, pasta roller or food processor. Just unscrew the attachment knob and add any attachment.


The included instruction manual has a speed control guide and recipes. The flat beater is for cookie doughs and cake batter. The wire whip is for egg whites and heavy cream. The dough hook is for bread doughs. Also, there is an adjustable screw here if your beater hits the bottom of the bowl or is too far away from the bowl.
Put the bowl on the plate and turn it clockwise to lock. When you first put the bowl on the plate, it will take a bit of wiggling to seat it correctly. I did it a few times and now it seems fine. It’s not as easy as the steel bowl. Put the motor head down and lock. Plug in the mixer. Pour in 2 cups of heavy cream. Start at a low speed and work your way up, we’ll go up to speed 8 which is best for whipping cream.
Next we’ll make cookie dough using the flat beater and speed 4. 2 Sticks of soft butter, ¾ c sugar, 2 eggs one at a time, tsp of vanilla, scrape down the bowl. When you add flour turn the speed down. 2 ¼ c flour with 1 tsp baking soda and ½ tsp salt. Add the chocolate chips. One of the pluses of a glass bowl is that you can see the ingredients. On the downside, it’s heavier than a steel bowl.


Last, we’ll make dough with wheat flour using the dough hook and speed 2. I have 1.5 cups of flour and ½ tsp salt. Add water slowly. Mix. Add tsp oil. Add more water if necessary.
