That was until the day that Patricia got sick. She battled Alzheimer's for a decade, and then the couple both got COVID-19. Englebert tried everything he could think of to help her hang on, including stem cells, holy water, acupuncture, and more. He asked for prayers from his fans because he knew they needed a miracle. Patricia passed with her family all around her. They got to see her final moments together, quietly and privately.

The grief was too powerful for Englebert to talk about for quite some time. There were several months when it seemed like it could stop the singer’s long and prosperous career. Every lyric of his songs reminds him of her. How could he ever perform them again?
